The present model differs from the conventional Frenkel-Kontorova model at the point that each atom in the adlayer chain is magnetic and the strength of the exchange interaction between the nearest neighbor adatoms varies with the distance between the two atoms. The chain of the adsorbed atoms is modulated by an external magnetic field. The properties of the system at zero temperature and low temperatures are discussed by the effective potential method.
