T. Hardner, M. B. Weissman, and M. B. Salamon /Department of Physics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, Illinois 61801-3080/ S. S. P. Parkin /IBM Almaden Research Center, 650 Harry Road, San Jose, California 95120-6099/ Received 7 September 1993 We find that Co/Cu multilayers exhibiting giant magnetoresistance (GMR) also show giant magnetoresistive 1//f/ noise. The largest component of this noise (which peaks at magnetic fields maximizing the GMR derivative) is accurately predicted from a fluctuation-dissipation relation using the out-of-phase GMR in an ac field. A second noise mechanism, connected with defects in the antiferromagnetic order but not related to overall magnetization fluctuations, was found near zero field. ©1993 The American Physical Society *URL:* http://link.aps.org/abstract/PRB/v48/p16156 *DOI:* 10.1103/PhysRevB.48.16156 *PACS:* 73.50.Jt, 75.70.Fr, 75.60.Ej, 72.70.+m ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View Page Images or PDF (649 kB) *[ *Previous article* | *Next article* | *Issue 21 contents* ]* ------------------------------------------------------------------------ References (Reference links marked with may require a separate subscription.) 1.
