Folkerts and F. Hakkens Philips Research, P. O. Box 80000, 5600 JA Eindhoven, The Netherlands (Received 8 September 1992; accepted 14 January 1993) A special corrugated microstructure of Fe/Cr(110) superlattices is discovered, which develops spontaneously when grown on Ge(110) substrates. This microstructure was studied using low energy electron diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Also magnetic and transport properties of these superlattices were measured. We conclude that the microstructure induces a magnetic anisotropy, which has a strong influence on the magnetoresistance curves.
