Related Records, unique to the ISI CD Editions, are records that have at least one reference in common with a record you have already identified. If two authors cite the same reference(s), chances are good that the subjects of their respective publications are related. By taking advantage of ISI's Related Records feature, you will be able to extend your searching power by:

• finding articles that are closely associated with your topic of interest, even though the article titles themselves have no words in common, just by paging through the Related Records of your search results. For example, these two articles share three references, yet their titles have no words in common:

• examining the Related Records of your search results, often finding suggestions for your next search query. For example, if you search the Title field for a specific word or phrase, and then look at the Related Records' titles, you may find synonyms or other variants to use to expand your next search.
• tracking current trends in specific areas of research by focusing on the citation connections between papers.

By examining Related Records, you can uncover information not obtainable through more conventional methods like title or author searches. Instead of trying to perfect a search strategy with multiple search terms and logical operators, you might achieve better results in the same amount of time simply by browsing through the Related Records retrieved from a single search.
